Climax

If anything can be said about the Climax Locomotive and the Corry Historical Museum, it just might be that the Climax is the Museum! That is not said to minimize the other fine exhibits and artifacts within the Museum, but it was the search for a Climax Locomotive which really started the Museum. The Climax locomotive on display was built in 1928 at the Climax Manufacturing Company on Main Street. This 30 ton locomotive, which was originally used as a yard engine, was one of the last ones built in Corry and is 100% complete. Railroad enthusiasts from all over the country have come to get a close-up view of this Climax and get a chance to speak with Walter Casler (who passed away in April of 1997 at the age of 92). To say that Walter knew the Climax is an understatement. Walter started working for the Climax Manufacturing company in 1919, when he was only 14 years old. Up until the time of his death, he was the only living Corry employee of the locomotive manufacturer. In 1987, the National Historical Commission erected a Historical Marker on Main Street which commemorates the Climax Manufacturing Company.
