History
The Dixie Doodlers originated in Meadville, Pennsylvania. The original Dixie Doodlers were organized in the late 1950's by Charles "Chuck" Hornstein. Chuck was the pianist for the group, with Dusty Rhodes on clarinet, Blane Hauserman on trumpet, Darryl Shakeley on drums, and Tom Lewis on trombone. Later Dale Funkhouser and Morie Youngdahl joined or replaced some of the Doodlers.
The tradition of Dixieland started in the mid-west over a hundred years ago. Dixieland has its own unique blend of instruments, rhythm, and style. Ladies and men for generations, from all over the country, have danced to the iresistable sounds of Dixieland.
