Carl M. Olson is a musician and music teacher in the Titusville, Pennsylvania area. Mr. Olson retired in June of 2008 after 32 years of public school teaching in the Titusville Area School District. His duties there included directing four choirs from grades 6 – 12, teaching Vocal Training, Music Appreciation, and Music Theory. Mr. Olson was also Music Department Chairperson for 10 years. He has served as guest conductor/ clinician/ soloist with bands and choruses through out the region. Mr. Olson was the Organist and Choirmaster at St. James Episcopal Church in Titusville for twenty years. As a freelance musician, Mr. Olson plays the piano, organ, and synthesizer as a soloist and accompanist and plays in Big Bands and small jazz ensembles, including The Dixie Doodlers, The Haener Brothers, Jazz Lite, and the classic rock band Joe’s Sunroom, in northwestern Pennsylvania.
A native of Erie, Pennsylvania, Mr. Olson received a Master of Music from Youngstown State University and a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. He has continued his education by taking graduate music courses at the Eastman School of Music, Penn State University, Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, New England Conservatory, West Chester University of Pennsylvania, Oberlin Conservatory, the University of Chicago, and Duquesne University. He is a member of the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association, Jazz Erie, and Local 118 of the American Federation of Musicians. Mr. Olson resides in Pleasantville, Pennsylvania, with his wife Edith.
